Our Story

A Field Guide to Growing Up

Henry and Aster are curious about everything. The way a butterfly's wing unfolds. Why a biplane stays in the air. How a daffodil knows which way is up.

We started keeping notes — the kind naturalists kept, a hundred years ago, when learning something meant looking closely and drawing it slowly, one careful line at a time.

That's what Henry & Aster is: a field guide to growing up. Every print starts the same way every child does — a few uncertain lines — and becomes, slowly, something whole.

Why We Make Art This Way

Every piece we create starts the same way a child learns anything new: uncertain, unfinished, a few tentative lines on the page.

Then, slowly, it becomes something whole.

We borrow this idea from the naturalist sketchbooks and vintage instructional plates of the early 20th century — the kind that taught you to see a subject not as a finished picture, but as a process. Construction lines becoming form. Form becoming detail. Detail becoming something you'd recognize anywhere.

It felt like the right way to make art for children's spaces, because it's the truest way to describe childhood itself. Nothing arrives finished. Everything is still becoming.

What We Believe

Children's spaces deserve real art, not an afterthought.

We design every piece with the same care we'd bring to any room in the house — because a child's room isn't a lesser room. It's often the room where the most growing happens.

The best art rewards a closer look.

Our pieces are built for the age of discovery — for the wobbly, unfinished, wide-eyed way that kids (and honestly, most of us) actually learn. We want something you notice more of, the longer you live with it.

A room should grow with the child in it.

From nursery to bedroom to the walls of a teenager who still, secretly, loves the things they loved at five — our work is made to last through all of it, not just the first year.

How It's Made

Every Henry & Aster piece begins as a hand-drawn study before it's ever a finished print. We believe that care shows — in the weight of a line, the imperfection of a curve, the small human choices that a purely digital process would smooth away.

From there, each design is reproduced as gallery-quality canvas, ready to hang, made to last. No trend-chasing, no shortcuts. Just careful work, made slowly, for the people who'll live with it every day.
